Christina is performing in China this week and sent this factoid along:

The fortune cookies we eat at Chinese restaurants in America are not Chinese at all.  They are truly an American food, invented in California.  Fortune cookies are now sold in China as “Genuine American Fortune Cookies.”

Apparently one of the few foods that we eat in America that is truly Chinese is ice cream! The flavors over here are different, though.  I rarely find chocolate, but I have enjoyed red bean, mung bean, and corn flavors.

Pepper was once so valuable it was used as a form of money. Here in New York City, Trinity Church paid a rent of one peppercorn per year to the King of England. In 1976, Queen Elizabeth II came to New York and was paid 279 peppercorns in back rent.
